Creed

The world is in the middle of a historical, yes: tectonic upheaval. Francis Fukuyama’s forecast of the “end of history” has not materialized. To the contrary: We face a new formation of blocks comparable to the “Cold War”.
On the one side there is the “West” divided in itself, on the other side the emerging BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and many more) – often autocracies which support each other (Anne Applebaum’s “Autocracies Inc.”), and which strive to get rid of dependencies on the United States ($, technology).
The global custom and supply conflicts show that globalization with open markets and free trade (World Trade Organization, WTO) has failed. No stone remains on the other.
In these times a compass for the ride through uncertainty is necessary. Foresight in form of scenarios is needed. Thereby the time horizon is not limited to the here and now, but on the longer view: what is the situation in 2030? 2040? There is a must for strategic thinking bringing geopolitical, economic and societal perspectives together.
